The Digital Citizenship Center (DCC) is the result of a new concept of smartcities in which technologies are used to improve the life of communities. It is a collaborative space of digital tools where, through the creation of activities and/or projects, we empower the community to take advantage of the opportunities of the digital world towards a more innovative, creative and human city.
The Valongo Digital Citizenship Center started in January 2018 as a result of the partnership between Valongo City Council and CDI Portugal. The inauguration was on April 24th, 2018 and had attendance of the Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues and the Mayor of Valongo, José Manuel Ribeiro.
Since April 2020, CCD Valongo has initiated the Switch to Innovation programme – the result of the application made to Portugal Social Innovation by CDI Portugal, with the support of Valongo City Council, one of the municipalities with the highest social investment of Portugal.

CAPACITY TRAINING
One of the positive points for having participated in this project was having the possibility to acquire knowledge, to learn, to socialise.
I try to be an example to others of what I have learned here, to change behaviour and share knowledge
It was thanks to this training that I was able to get a job
… I enjoyed the contact with other people, the new discoveries, learning new things and not giving up! I went back to study this year, on a course that I am enjoying
We value our collaborations and partnerships with companies, foundations, municipalities that share our vision of developing a more innovative and socially and digitally inclusive Portuguese society.
Do you master any area of marketing, communication, design and/or technology? Would you like to share your knowledge? Do you have ideas of activities that you would like to boost? Challenge us!
The pilot of the Digital Citizenship Center took place in Marvila (2015/2016) followed by the opening of São Domingos de Benfica (2016/2017). The concept expanded northwards, with the opening in the municipality of Valongo (2018) and which remains in operation as the center with the largest size.
