The House of Knowledge in Valongo is located in the Vallis Longus Cultural Forum and is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 9.30 am to 1 pm and then from 2 pm to 5.30 pm. It was inaugurated in the 1st Edition of the Switch to Innovation Summit with José Manuel Ribeiro, Mayor of Valongo and Rui Vieira de Castro, Rector of the University of Minho – the two-day event that gave stage to Social Innovation with Technology – on the 18th June 2021. It is a space equipped with technologies to engage and sensitize citizens in challenges of innovation, learning, creativity, technological experimentation and knowledge, boosting the local community to enhance economic development, social and local entrepreneurship. Therefore, it is a space that is open to the population, with a team prepared to receive anyone and with a great desire to make Valongo Municipality more dynamic around information technologies, knowledge and innovation.
The House of Knowledge represent the channels through which the municipalities and the University of Minho seek to raise awareness and involve citizens, based on a network of people and resources in the area of technologies, which act as supports for sharing knowledge and promoting innovation.
The doors are open to the Lan House of Valongo, free of charge!

It’s a space with gaming computers with the main purpose of entertainment with network or online games, streams, videos and for access to quick information for consultation.
Every fortnight on Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
for children and young people between 9 and 14 years of age.
The Code Club is a project created by Bernardo Leite – one of the winners of the 6th Edition of the Valongo Youth Participatory Budget (OPJV) with the project “Code Club: Create your game”. At the moment, the House of Knowledge in Valongo has a CoderDojo in its premises for free access – in practice, a set of programming classes adapted to children so that they learn to create their own game, website among other themes.

CDI Portugal and SAP have teamed up to create the CDI Academy with SAP for participants who have a tested disability/incapacity and/or the long-term unemployed (LTU). The aim? To develop their soft skills and also their technical and technological skills to qualify as users of SAP’s ERP application for financial management – an area of strong demand and appreciation in the market.
The last session of CoderDojo, on March 12th, was very special! The participants got involved in the international activity “Mission Zero”, promoted by the Raspberry Pi foundation and the European Space Agency . The youngsters developed a program able to measure the humidity level (with a sensor) on board the International Space Station and communicate it to the astronauts through a custom message. This message will be displayed for 30 seconds!
Casa do Conhecimento de Valongo hosted the 4th Annual Apps for Good NINJA Meeting. NINJA are teachers who have applied or are applying the Apps for Good methodology and share their experiences so that, together, we can improve their educational practices! During the afternoon, they were surrounded by Immersive Technologies! It was an intense but very productive day!
32 students and 12 teachers from Iceland, Turkey and Finland of the Erasmus+ programme of the Ermesinde Schools Cluster, had the opportunity to experience didactic activities with robotics kits, virtual reality, 3D printing, stamping and gaming!
21 students and 7 Teachers from Croatia, Turkey, Lithuania and Hungary of the Erasmus+ program of Schools Group of Ermesinde, had the opportunity to experience didactic activities with robotics kits, virtual reality, 3D printing and stamping!

Programming workshops for children and young people – held every other Saturday morning – through the creation of games, animations, websites, robots and digital art. The motto is learning to use technology in a critical and creative way.
81 primary school children from Fijós, Montes da Costa, Mirante dos Sonhos and Barreiro schools participated in the Makers Kids Academy! These were two days of
based on the philosophy of “do it yourself” and “learning by doing”, where the children had contact with different technologies, from creative robotics, 3D printing and cutting decorative vinyl.
With 20 youngsters from the Professional School of Valongo who participated in a 16h action to experience programming with Arduino and 3D printing.
